When building a brick driveway, the herringbone pattern (used here) offers the best strength for car traffic. Follow the same laying process as for the brick path. To easily screed the paving sand over the width of the driveway, lay screed rails, which are long thin strips of aluminium, in the sand at the correct level. Run your straightedge along them, dragging the sand back to create a firm, level surface. Remove the rails before laying your bricks. When finished, tie a scrap of carpet under the plate compactor and use it to bed the bricks firmly so they can take the weight of a car.

– Phil Freelon, the architect who helped design the African American Museum, died at 66. Matt Schudel reports: “He had complications from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, sometimes known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, said a son, Deen Freelon. Since 1990, Mr. Freelon led an architectural firm in Durham that specialized in designing public buildings, including other cultural centers devoted to African American life in Baltimore, Atlanta, Charlotte, San Francisco and Greensboro, N.C. He led a consortium of several architectural firms — formally known as the Freelon Adjaye Bond/SmithGroup — that won the design competition for the National Museum of African American History and Culture in 2009. Their proposal was chosen, in a unanimous vote, over submissions from such renowned architects as Richard Meier, I.M. Pei and Norman Foster.”

“It was about ten degrees in February the day myself and my buddy, Daniel Scmidt (helped during the entire build) headed 3 hours to St. Louis, Missouri to pick up this 2006 YZ125. Overall it was a pretty clean bike and we got right to work. It was completely disassembled within a few hours. Then the fun part of removing every single bearing including the dreaded steering stem race. We tore the engine apart, mostly for inspection and found the rod on the governor shaft was broken. Everything else was in great shape. The clutch basket and plates only had a few hours on them as well as the piston, but we decided to swap the piston out for a brand new one. We taped every little opening off and tried our hand with a small soda blaster to get the engine looking factory again.
